I have approximately five years of experience. My website design and building career began my senior year of high school with a volunteer project for the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. This project took eight months to complete, primarily due to jumping government hoops.

This project was followed up with two University club websites, University of Idaho Preveterinary Club and The Medieval Club at the University of Idaho. During this same time, I built a business website for my ceramics hobby in an attempt to sell some of my pieces, Kestana's Pottery Shop.

Next, I began building public school websites. I constructed pages for two teachers, Mrs. Dance and Mr. Banyas, at Franklin Middle School, and spent a year working on Century High School's website. The latter two of these have since been altered from the forms shown here.

Of finished projects, my most recent projects were Scott Balsai's Acoustic Reflections website and . I remain in contact with Scott in order to answer questions and make a few small updates when he asks. Another project was an online curriculum vitae (CV) for graduate student Jessica Hopkins Idaho State University to help her apply for jobs at other Universities.

Until just recently, I also managed Idaho State University's Swing Kids swing dance club website, which I also built from the ground up.

As part of a marketing class I completed, I worked with a group of three others to create an Integrated Marketing and Communications (IMC) plan. I was in charge of putting all the pieces together for our final presentation, and I designed our presentation in website format, as opposed to using Microsoft PowerPoint or another similar program.

Program Experience

Many of the programs below are ones that I am familiar with and can use, though I may not be as adept with them as with other programs. I prefer to write HTML, CSS, PHP, and JavaScript coding manually rather than using a program such as DreamWeaver to construct a website; I feel that manual coding provides more predictable and duplicative results.

As for image creation, manipulation, and animantion, I prefer to use Corel's Paint Shop Pro and Animation Shop, which has nearly all of the same features as programs such as Illustrator and Photoshop. I believe that being more familiar with the Corel programs allows me to produce higher-quality and better results than using the Adobe programs that, while I am somewhat familiar with them and capable of using them efficiently, I am not as well-versed in using.

All of the images on this site were created using Corel's Paint Shop Pro and Animation Shop unless otherwise noted. Nearly all of the content and coding were typed manually and the little that was not (such as the scripting for the buttons) has been manipulated by myself to make it better suit this website and I could easily duplicate.

Adobe Programs

I took several classes covering most of the Adobe products, including Flash, DreamWeaver, Fireworks, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Premiere. While I am not particularly fond of these programs from a practical standpoint--they usually take a lot of memory and CPU power to work smoothly and efficiently and any two of them cost as much as the computer needed to run one of them--I am familiar with how to use them.

Each of these classes lasted a semester. Here are examples of each one (please keep in mind that some of these may not download quickly even on a fast connection, and some may not download at all on a dial-up connection): Flash, DreamWeaver, Fireworks, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Premiere.

The logo for this site was originally designed in Adobe InDesign and later improved and touched up using Corel's Paint Shop Pro X2.

Microsoft Visual Basic

I spent eight weeks learning how to use Visual Basic to create and manipulate ASP and ASP.NET code. Due to lack of server support, I cannot demonstrate these in this portfolio.
